Yes, They are a Cult. A cult is a perversion, a distortion of biblical Christianity and/or a
rejection of historic teachings of the Christian Church.
What do they believe?
Here are just some of their false teachings that are not scriptural according
to the inspired word of God:
· Salvation by works.
· Baptism at birth.
· Mass.
· Penance.
· Confirmation.
· Sacrament of matrimony- marriage to
a Catholic.
· Holy Orders- for bishops and priesthood.
· Prayers for the dead.
· Mary as co-mediator to God.
· Purgatory (not Hell).
According to the scriptures God’s word is the final authority 2Peter
1: 20-21…No prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation. 2Timothy 3:16-17…All scripture is given by
inspiration of God…
But the Roman Catholic Church claim that both bible AND man-made church traditions are the rule of Christian faith and all interpretations
must be done by the Pope, councils, and clergy.
The scriptures plainly state that the true
born-again believers are justified and saved by grace alone. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that
not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according
to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Catholicism believes man is saved by grace And the aforementioned
works that have to parallel grace in order to be saved.
The inspired scripture says in 1Timothy 2:5 For [there is]
one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (Catholicism says that Mary is a co-mediator)
John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and
the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (Catholicism says it is by Jesus and in addition to the sacraments of the Catholic
Church).
Catholicism believes in confession of sins to a priest to be forgiven. The scriptures teachings
in 1John 1:9 If we confess our sins He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us [our]
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And it is not only just the confession of sins but
there has to be a turning away from sin.
Luke 13:3: I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
