University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Preaching The Gospel / 11-13-2009

 

 

On Friday 13^th Brother Pat O’Connell from New Bern, NC, Ross Jackson from Greenville, NC and myself went to UNC campus in Chapel Hill to preach the gospel. It had been raining quite heavy for the pass few days and just started to lighten up on this day and I really didn’t expect a great number of students to be hanging around the pit area much less passing through, but to my surprise the campus was busy as ever giving us the perfect opportunity to preach the gospel in Jesus name.

 

When I arrived with my cross and sign Pat was already open-air preaching; presenting the gospel to the crowd that were drawn, and those who passed by could not escape the hearing of it, which also includes the fact that God commands all men everywhere to repent (forsake there sins). This “seems” to be a missing part of the gospel that is not preached much, BUT without true repentance there is no remission of sins. True repentance is sorrow for sinning against God and forsaking sin.

 

 

UNC Chapel Hill student population is reported to be about 28,000, and it seems as though many of them are and have been deceived in believing in another god or that there is no God. In spite of there deception and free will to choose to do evil the loving God who created them have commissioned us to preach repentance and remission of sins in Jesus name to them. In this His love for them is proclaimed that even they who reject Him as a Holy God who commands obedience to His word still can receive pardon from there sins upon repentance toward Him.

 

Although most who stopped to hear the preaching of God’s word came to mock, heckle, or disagree with the Bible in some form or fashion. We know that God’s word is LIVING and as we preach it the living word enters the ear gate of the hearers and performs what the Lord has intended for it to do. The few (Matt 7:14) who yields to the Holy Spirit and believe (commit to, trust-in) the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved.

 

Many I spoke with and attempted to reason with on this day made a valiant effort to justify their sins against a Holy God. But the bottom line always came to they love there sins more then they love Jesus, and that they were slaves to there sins (John 8:34).

 

One student named John that I reasoned with for a long while had many good questions regarding the bible, God, Jesus, 9/11, campus preachers, judgment, etc. One of his questions was if knowing Jesus is the only way that a person can be saved from eternal damnation. What happens to groups of people in the world that live isolated from the world and die without even hearing or knowing about Jesus? I told John that the scriptures plainly states that God’s laws are written on every man’s heart and mind and God (Jesus) will judge them according to there obedience to what they already know. For when they disobey there conscience and steal, lie, murder, rape, etc. They are sinning and disobeying God.

 

John also asked did God cause or direct the attack on 9/11, and that he heard some preachers state that God did it. My response to John was that God’s will is that none should perish, but all men have a free will. Many choose to do evil including him by not turning from sin and believing in Jesus, and when was he going to repent and believe so that he could be saved. He went on to talk about how he felt his worldviews and ways were right. I told John that I would be praying for him that in has no more pleasure in his sins, and that he will come to know Jesus Christ as Lord.

 

What was so good about this outreach was that besides reaching the masses with open-air preaching we had many one on one and small group dialogue with the students on this day. My prayer for those that heard the word is that they will be saved.
